Azerbaijan-Portugal relations set to deepen with new embassy in Baku
Azerbaijan and Portugal are set to strengthen diplomatic relations with the opening of a Portuguese embassy in Baku, following a phone call between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel.
During the conversation, the ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and discussed prospects, as well as regional and international security issues, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Rangel confirmed Portugal’s decision to upgrade its diplomatic presence in Azerbaijan by establishing an embassy, a move that Bayramov welcomed and expressed gratitude for.
Both officials emphasized the importance of political consultation mechanisms and high-level mutual visits in enhancing bilateral relations. They also explored opportunities to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, including the economy, energy, trade, transport, and tourism.
The discussion also highlighted collaboration within international organizations, with both ministers underlining the need for continued mutual support on the global stage.
Bayramov and Rangel voiced concern over escalating military tensions in the Middle East, stressing the necessity of pursuing diplomatic solutions to ensure regional stability.
