Belgium backs swift Azerbaijan-Armenia peace deal
Belgium has expressed hope for the swift signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, following a phone call between the two countries’ top diplomats.
The statement was made by Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maxime Prévot, on X after his conversation with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
“A pleasure to speak by phone with my counterpart, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, to thank him for Azerbaijan’s support in facilitating evacuation of Belgians from Iran,” Prévot wrote.
“We discussed the importance of de-escalation in the Middle East and strengthening all efforts and multilateral cooperation in this regard.”
“Belgium commends both Azerbaijan and Armenia for their continued engagement in the peace process, and we shared our hope for a swift signature of the peace agreement,” he added.
