Baku, Belgrade set next round of talks for end of year

01 April 2026 14:29

Azerbaijan and Serbia are set to hold their next round of political consultations at the end of 2026 in Belgrade, Serbian Foreign Ministry State Secretary Damjan Jović said in a statement to Azerbaijani media.

Jović noted that regular dialogue between the two countries has intensified in recent years, particularly at the level of foreign ministries. He highlighted that after Foreign Minister Marko Đurić assumed office and he himself began serving as state secretary, the two sides established a pattern of annual political consultations.

“I believe that the closest political consultations are conducted precisely between our ministries. After Minister Marko Đurić took office and I began my work in the ministry as state secretary, political consultations between our countries have been held annually. In 2024, a delegation from Azerbaijan visited Belgrade, and last year I was in Baku,” he said.

He also pointed to ongoing diplomatic engagement, recalling that in February, Second State Secretary Nevena Jovanović participated in multilateral consultations held in Baku.

According to Jović, the consultation mechanism serves as an effective platform for reviewing the full scope of bilateral cooperation and assessing developments across different areas of interaction.

“There is a high level of mutual understanding between our ministries. As you know, we strongly support each other on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty. These are very important principles for both countries. Mutual understanding at this level is assessed not only as a partnership between our countries, but also as friendly meetings between people who know each other very well. In other words, such consultations are like meeting with your closest friends,” he said.
