Czech Prime Minister to visit Baku, Astana, Tashkent for trade talks
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis is set to embark on an official regional tour later this month, with visits to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan scheduled between April 26 and 30.
Babis will begin his trip in Azerbaijan, where he is expected to arrive for an official visit on April 26–27, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The visit forms part of a broader effort by Prague to deepen economic and political engagement with Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
The Czech prime minister will be accompanied by Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček, along with a sizable delegation of Czech business representatives, underscoring the economic focus of the tour.
The delegation is scheduled to visit the capitals of Baku, Astana, and Tashkent, where a series of business forums, thematic seminars, and networking events will be held in both B2B (business-to-business) and B2G (business-to-government) formats. These engagements are aimed at facilitating new partnerships and expanding cooperation between Czech enterprises and their counterparts in the host countries.
The visit comes against the backdrop of declining trade between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic. According to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, bilateral trade turnover stood at $814.73 million in 2025, representing a 29% decrease compared to the previous year.
The downward trend has continued into 2026, with trade between the two countries totaling $92.077 million in January–February, a sharp decline of 60.8% year-on-year.
