Fergana forum sparks new era of Azerbaijan-Central Asia partnership

31 March 2026 15:09

An international conference in Fergana, Uzbekistan, has brought together scholars, officials, and cultural representatives from Central Asia and Azerbaijan to strengthen regional ties and promote a “new era of friendship.”

The event held on the sidelines of the “Central Asia and Azerbaijan Friendship” forum, highlighted decades-long cooperation, strategic partnerships, and plans to expand trade, cultural, and humanitarian initiatives across the region, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Addressing the conference, Governor of the Fergana region, Khayrullo Bozorov, highlighted the forum’s significance in strengthening historically rooted ties, promoting interethnic harmony, and expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Participants noted that Central Asia has seen increasing mutual trust and good-neighborly relations in recent years, fostered by Uzbekistan’s open and pragmatic foreign policy. Consultative meetings between regional heads of state have played a key role in this development.

The conference placed particular emphasis on Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan relations, which have advanced to the level of strategic partnership. Officials highlighted that active political dialogue supports the expansion of trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and interregional cooperation.

Concrete examples of strengthened bilateral ties include the creation of Heydar Aliyev Square and Azerbaijan Park in Tashkent, the construction of Uzbekistan Park in Baku, and the establishment of a modern school named after Mirzo Ulugbek in Fuzuli.

Throughout the conference, representatives from relevant ministries and organizations in the region discussed strategies for deepening cooperation, revisited historical foundations of interaction, and identified priority areas for further development.

By the conclusion of the forum, participants agreed to make it a permanent dialogue platform and to promote joint initiatives aimed at sustainable development in Fergana region. Several attendees were awarded the “Friendship of Peoples” badge for their contributions.

The conference served as a platform to celebrate centuries-old ties across the region and to chart pathways for advancing cooperation in a new era.
