Belgian, Azerbaijani foreign ministers discuss Middle East escalation
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maxime Prévot held a phone conversation on March 31 to discuss escalating tensions in the Middle East and bilateral cooperation.
The ministers expressed deep concern over the ongoing military escalation in the Middle East and stressed the need to resolve the conflict through diplomatic channels, Caliber.Az reports per the Foreign Ministry.
Prévot conveyed Belgium’s solidarity with Azerbaijan following a drone attack launched from Iranian territory toward Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. He also thanked Azerbaijani authorities for facilitating the evacuation of Belgian citizens from Iran amid the deteriorating security situation.
The call also covered relations between Azerbaijan and Belgium, including prospects for expanding cooperation within the framework of the European Union.
Bayramov briefed his Belgian counterpart on the ongoing normalisation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, outlining steps taken by Baku aimed at achieving lasting peace and regional stability.
Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue, strengthening political consultations, and promoting high-level contacts and mutual visits to further develop Azerbaijani-Belgian relations.
