Surveillance cameras enhance border control in Azerbaijan's Gazakh district

22 November 2024 13:00

Approximately one thousand surveillance cameras have been installed in four villages of Gazakh district, located along the Azerbaijani-Armenian conditional border. These villages had been under Armenian occupation for a prolonged period before being liberated.

Major General, Commander of the “Gazakh” Separate Border Division, Misir Aliyev, confirmed the installation, stating that the cameras are crucial in overseeing large portions of the conditional border with Armenia, as well as part of the border with Georgia, Caliber.Az reports.

The villages of Baghanis Ayrim, Gizilhajili, Ashaghi Askipara, and Kheyrymli, all of which were recently freed from occupation, are now equipped with the advanced surveillance system. This initiative plays a key role in bolstering border security and monitoring cross-border activities.

General Aliyev emphasized that the cameras are strategically placed to maintain vigilance and ensure control over the sensitive areas, contributing significantly to the stability and security of the region.

On May 15, 2024, the 9th meeting of the border commissions between Azerbaijan and Armenia was held, where the Technical Protocol was agreed upon, and the corresponding commission protocol was signed.

As a result of the delimitation efforts, a 12.7 km section of the border was established. This process led to the return of 6.5 square kilometers of land, including the four villages in the Gazakh district: Baghanis Ayrim, Ashaghi Eskipara, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajili, to Azerbaijan's control.

Currently, the territory of these four villages in the Gazakh region is under the control of Azerbaijan’s State Border Service.
