Political analyst Ghukasyan highlights gigantic gap between Azerbaijani, Armenian arsenals
Armenian political analyst Andreas Ghukasyan has said that the US Senate passed an act according to which the country refuses to provide military aid to Azerbaijan.
“I think this is a weighty step for the US policy," Ghukasyan said as he was interviewed by the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
"As for the French weapons, about which so much is said, in fact, look at the gap – five-fold, we have about 100 tanks in Armenia, they have about 500 or more. Along with this, Azerbaijan has 4.5-5-fold advantages in artillery, and 5-fold in multiple launch rocket systems. That is such a huge gap. How many weapons should be purchased here? In monetary terms, this gap is estimated at 15-20 billion dollars.
Therefore, Armenia has chosen such a form of policy that the Armenian leadership boycotts participation in the military-political structures of the [Collective Security Treaty Organization] CSTO, but at the same time de jure preserves all relations so that it would be possible to purchase military equipment from the West. Apart from that, of course, Armenia should also produce weapons itself in order to address the problem of military balance. We should have closer relations with Western concerns, and closer policy with Western states.
However, remaining in allied relations with Russia, the Pashinyan government is not capable of such actions. They do not have such a resource. Even under this mask of pro-Westernism lies the state of affairs that has always been there. And, in fact, it is not a secret, the Prime Minister said that Armenia's course was and remains on cooperation and alliance with Russia. Despite the fact that Russia carries out openly hostile actions against Armenia," the political analyst said.
