Russia stops supplying electricity to Finland
The Russian Inter RAO generating company’s subsidiary - RAO Nordic Oy has stopped supplying electricity to Finland.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) quotes Timo Kaukonen, operational planning manager of the Finnish Fingrid transmission system operator, as saying.
Kaukonen stressed that Finland has not received electricity from Russia since midnight (21:00 GMT+3), as was announced.
Earlier, RAO Nordic Oy explained the suspension of supplies by non-payment for the supplied electricity.
Fingrid added that supplies from Russia met Finland's demand for electricity by 10 percent. The shortage will be compensated by supplies from Sweden and an increase in domestic production.
The company expects that Finland will begin to independently provide itself with electricity by 2023.
