Tenerife’s carnival stars set to bring colour, rhythm to F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

One of Tenerife’s most iconic carnival troupes, Los Joroperos, will light up the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend, adding a vibrant splash of Spanish culture to the high-speed spectacle.

A group of 15 performers will be in Baku to take center stage during both Saturday's (September 20) qualifying rounds and Sunday’s (September 21) thrilling race. Their performances, infused with the lively spirit of Santa Cruz Carnival, are expected to be one of the highlights off the track, offering F1 fans around the world a taste of Tenerife’s rich carnival tradition, Caliber.Az reports via local media. 

In addition to their main shows, Los Joroperos will also feature in various pre-race events along the Baku City Circuit, known for its challenging turns and dramatic vistas, drawing comparisons to the legendary Monaco Grand Prix track. Their rhythmic displays will surely add to the spectacle of one of the most scenic and difficult circuits on the F1 calendar.

Fernando Hernandez, the president of Los Joroperos, expressed his excitement about the international opportunity, hoping that the troupe’s performance will bring good fortune to Spanish F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz.

“We hope our presence can bring good luck to them this weekend,” Hernandez said.

Los Joroperos has a long history of success in Tenerife, having been a central figure in the Santa Cruz Carnival since 1983. Known for their vibrant costumes, music, and dance, the troupe blends traditional Spanish elements with modern creativity, making them a standout in the genre of comparsa — a lively ensemble that combines music, dance, and theatrical performance.

As the world watches the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Los Joroperos will undoubtedly inject a burst of rhythm and colour into an already action-packed weekend.
