Tokayev instructs governement to resolve situation on Kazakh-Kyrgyz border
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the government to resolve the situation at checkpoints on the border with Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Kazakh leader reported in Telegram.
"The head of state instructed the government to resolve the situation arising on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border in the spirit of partnership and fraternal relations between our countries," the statement said.
Tokayev also noted the need to continue talks with Kyrgyz representatives on more active implementation of digitalisation and automation to prevent illegal transport of goods across the border.
Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Economy and Commerce said on August 24 that Kazakhstan is restricting the free movement of goods within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) by tightening inspections.
At the same time, the Border Service of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee claimed that it had not imposed any restrictions at checkpoints on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border.
