Türkiye presents “Azerbaijan neighbourhood” reconstruction project at WUF13
The “Azerbaijan neighbourhood” reconstruction project in Türkiye’s Kahramanmaras province was presented during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
Ahmet Kutlu Gayretli, Head of the Mass Housing Projects and Research Center Department of Türkiye, introduced the initiative at the Turkish pavilion of the forum, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to Gayretli, extensive reconstruction work is underway in the area known as the “Azerbaijan neighbourhood” following the devastating earthquakes, as part of Türkiye’s TOKİ housing project.
He said the development includes 1,223 residential homes, 1,789 commercial facilities, 464 office spaces, a cultural centre and a school named after Heydar Aliyev.
The presentation also highlighted that commercial zones, a sports center, a mosque and recreational areas have been designed in line with the needs of residents.
"Decisions regarding squares and public spaces have also been finalized. The main goal of the project is to create a safe, modern living environment that meets social needs."
The project was showcased as part of broader discussions at WUF13 on sustainable urban development and post-disaster reconstruction.
