Türkiye set to reach 90 million tourists by 2028

17 June 2023 17:59

Türkiye expects to receive 60 million visitors and generate $56 billion of income from tourism in 2023.

According to Anadolu News Agency, this was announced by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

Ersoy recalled Türkiye's record achievements in tourism before the pandemic - in 2019 when the number of tourists arriving in the country was 51.5 million and tourism revenues amounted to $39 billion.

"By the end of 2022, Türkiye welcomed 51.5 million visitors and tourism revenue was already $46 billion," the minister stated.

According to him, as of 2019, Türkiye ranked sixth in the global tourism industry, and last year rose to third place.

"Rival countries during the pandemic were not able to successfully manage the processes. We managed very well and raised the sector to third place. It just shows how well the country and the government managed the situation," Ersoy said.

The minister went on to say that the Century of Türkiye concept sets more ambitious goals for the country, including in the field of tourism.

“Today we say: 60 million visitors and $56 billion in revenue in 2023 and 90 million visitors and $100 billion in revenue in 2028. We declare that Türkiye will enter the top three or four leaders among the world's tourist countries. We will achieve our goal by overcoming all difficulties together. We will achieve the goals of the 'Century of Türkiye' in the very near future," the minister stressed.
