Passenger traffic resumes at Upper Lars checkpoint freight transport still closed
The Roads Department of the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has said that the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border reopened for passenger car traffic.
However, the border remains closed for freight transport. Earlier this morning, traffic was completely halted for all types of vehicles, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
The Georgian Military Road is the only operational land route connecting Armenia with Russia via Georgia.
Earlier, the North Ossetian Traffic Management Centre announced that approximately 700 Armenian trucks were waiting to cross the Russian-Georgian border at the Upper Lars checkpoint.
The Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway, which connects Georgia and Russia, is open for all types of vehicles. However, traffic jams persist due to adverse weather conditions.
