Ukraine detains former Energoatom executive over alleged Russia links
Ukrainian authorities have detained a former acting first vice president of the state nuclear operator Energoatom on suspicion of having links to Russia, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said on his Telegram channel.
The official’s name has not been publicly disclosed, though RBC-Ukraine sources say the detainee is Yuriy Sheiko.
“Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and Kyiv region, have detained the former acting first vice president of Energoatom, who also previously served as the first deputy minister of energy,” Kravchenko said.
According to the prosecutor general, the former official is suspected of involvement in manipulations during the conclusion of a mandatory civil liability insurance contract for nuclear damage — a document directly related to Ukraine’s national security and the nuclear sector.
