United States develops UAV specifically for needs of Ukraine
The US Air Force has developed a new Phoenix Ghost drone system to meet the needs of Ukraine. According to Korrespondent.net with reference to CNN, on Thursday, April 21, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters behind the scenes.
The new US aid package for Ukraine includes 121 Phoenix Ghost systems, according to the Pentagon.
Kirby noted that the UAVs were developed in a short time by the Air Force in response to Ukrainian needs.
"It provides similar capabilities to the Switchblade series drones - similar capabilities, but not exact," Kirby said, adding that there are differences in the Phoenix Ghost's
capabilities.
However, he did not specify what exactly is the difference between the Switchblade and Phoenix Ghost systems.
Kirby also said that the new system would require "certain minimum training for experienced operators".
In addition, regarding the howitzers in the new aid package, which will be used to equip five additional Ukrainian battalions, Kirby said they are being provided in line with
Ukrainian needs for fighting in the Donbas region, which the agency expects to continue "in the coming days and weeks."
