Majority of Germans dissatisfied with EU chief von der Leyen, survey finds
A majority of German citizens are dissatisfied with the performance of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, according to a new poll conducted by the INSA Institute for Bild newspaper.
The survey, carried out on July 31 and August 1, found that 51 per cent of respondents disapprove of von der Leyen's work at the helm of the EU executive. Just 31 per cent expressed approval, while 18 per cent said they were undecided, Caliber.Az reports.
The second part of the poll examined public sentiment toward recent tariffs on exports from the European Union to the United States, introduced as part of a trade deal signed on July 27.
Sixty-six per cent of those surveyed believe the new tariffs will harm Germany’s economy. Only 14 per cent saw the measures in a positive light, and 10 per cent believed the tariffs would have no impact.
Approximately 1,000 German citizens took part in the survey. The poll's margin of error was not disclosed.
