Pakistan officials hold talks in Tehran on Middle East conflict

Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran on August 24 as Islamabad stepped up diplomatic efforts to promote a peaceful resolution to the Middle East conflict.

Munir and Naqvi travelled to Tehran as part of Pakistan’s efforts to support regional peace and stability, Dawn reports.

Pakistan’s military said Munir would focus on efforts toward a “peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution” of the conflict.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei on August 23 said CDF Munir was expected to travel to Tehran to continue efforts to bring peace and security to the region.

He said CDF Munir would lead an official delegation and the “visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and to continue Pakis­tan’s good offices in support of peace and security in the region”.

During the visit, CDF Munir would meet and hold talks with senior Iranian officials, Baqaei added.
