Serbia to hold emergency security council meeting amid allegations of coup attempt
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced the convening of an emergency session of the National Security Council following the arrest of former Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirović.
According to the Večernje Novosti newspaper, the meeting is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (GMT+2) on August 2. The move comes amid growing political tensions and reports of a coup attempt allegedly involving senior members of law enforcement, Caliber.Az reports.
Pro-government sources claim that a "massive coup attempt" has been uncovered, allegedly orchestrated by employees of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and certain police units. These actions, they allege, were carried out "on the order of the West."
Momirović, who previously held key ministerial positions, is reported to have been among those detained in connection with the alleged plot.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement detailing the charges or evidence.
