OpenAI explores turning smart glasses into AI assistants

OpenAI is considering integrating its artificial intelligence technologies into smart glasses made by third-party manufacturers, company President Greg Brockman said during a meeting with journalists in New York.

According to Brockman, OpenAI aims not only to develop its own hardware but also to provide developers with tools for integrating the company's AI services into third-party products. Over time, the company hopes to build an ecosystem spanning a wide range of devices, Caliber.Az reports, citing CNet.

A key part of that strategy is expected to be ChatGPT Live, OpenAI's voice assistant, which is already capable of holding natural conversations and is integrated with Codex, a tool that generates computer code from natural-language prompts. In the future, the assistant is expected to interact with third-party applications and perform a broader range of tasks with minimal user input.

To support these capabilities, OpenAI is preparing an API that will allow electronics manufacturers to integrate its AI models into their own devices.

The company is placing particular emphasis on wearable technology. Smart glasses equipped with cameras could provide AI applications with real-time information about a user's surroundings, improving the performance and contextual awareness of digital assistants.
