Italy’s No TAV protests turn violent, leaving 120 police officers injured

A total of 120 law enforcement officers were injured in clashes between police and members of the No TAV movement in Italy, which opposes the construction of the Turin–Lyon high-speed railway line in the Val di Susa valley, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said.

"It's not the scene of a war, it's the scene of an alleged protest. But this isn't dissent; this is organized, premeditated violence, and it must be treated as such," Meloni stressed.

The prime minister assured that the government would make every effort to identify and hold those responsible accountable.

Protests against the construction of the Turin–Lyon railway line have continued for nearly 30 years.

Members of the No TAV movement oppose the project, citing its potential negative impact on the environment of the Susa Valley, as well as what they consider the unjustifiably high cost of construction.
