Moldova faces diesel shortages amid low Danube water levels

27 July 2026 18:41

Moldova is facing diesel supply disruptions caused by low water levels on the Danube River and the escalating situation in the Middle East, the government has said.

It noted that lower water levels on the river and the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East had disrupted transport chains, negatively affecting fuel deliveries, Caliber.Az reports, citing Moldovan media.

As of July 27, 53 filling stations—fewer than 10% of Moldova's 590 fuel stations—had run out of diesel. Of those, 38 belonged to the Lukoil network.

To ease the shortage, around 6,000 tonnes of fuel have already been delivered to Moldova, with another 6,000 tonnes of diesel expected to arrive soon, according to the government.
