Ukraine dismisses Iran’s threats as "unjustified and groundless"

27 July 2026 17:21

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybyha has rejected threats from Iran, accusing Tehran of supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine and attempting to divert attention from Russian attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea.

“Iran’s threats are unjustified and groundless,” Sybyha wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.

He accused Iran of being a “direct accomplice” to Russian aggression by supplying weapons that have been used in the war against Ukraine since 2022.

Sybyha said Iran had no grounds to present itself as a victim or justify its threats by referring to the UN Charter.

He also accused Tehran of trying to shift attention away from what he described as Russia’s attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea, warning that such actions threatened global food security.

“Russia’s attacks on freedom of navigation will be at the spotlight of today’s emergency UN Security Council meeting,” Sybyha said, adding that Ukraine expected a strong response from the international community.
