US believes that Russia should not be member of OSCE

The US authorities believe that the Russian Federation should not be a full member of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), but there is no mechanism for its exclusion.

According to TASS, this was stated at a briefing on Fenruary 10 by US Permanent Representative to the OSCE Michael Carpenter.

“The reality of the situation is such that there is no mechanism for expelling the Russian Federation from the OSCE. I sympathize with those who call for at least the suspension of Russia's membership in the organization. Russia cannot and should not be a full member of this organization, however, as I said, there is no [appropriate] mechanism,” he said.

“What we can do and are doing is to diplomatically isolate Russia and Belarus,” the American diplomat said.
