US deploys armoured division battalion for exercise in South Korea
The US Armed Forces are conducting a planned rapid deployment exercise in South Korea.
According to the US 8th Army, stationed in the south of South Korea, the exercise is taking place at the level of an armoured division battalion, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
"On July 17, soldiers from the 4th Battalion, 70th Regiment, 1st Armoured Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armoured Division, were notified that they would be leaving Fort Bliss, Texas, as part of a deployment readiness exercise without [prior] warning. Six days later, they began unloading military equipment [at] Camp Carroll base in the Republic of Korea," the report said. Camp Carroll is on the outskirts of the city of Daegu.
The US military noted that it was a routine Pacific Fortitude exercise that assesses the army's ability to quickly deploy personnel to a given location, conduct exercises there and return to the place of permanent deployment.
