US, Hungary, Romania voice support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity

12 September 2023 09:35

The US Department of State's Spokesperson Matthew Miller has commented on the recent sham elections held in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.

"We do not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh [Garabagh] as an independent and sovereign state, and therefore we do not recognize the results of those so-called presidential elections that were announced over the last few days," Miller said in a press briefing on September 11.

He added that the United States would continue to strongly support efforts by Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve outstanding issues through direct dialogue.

"That’s why Secretary Blinken and Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations Lou Bono have been consistently engaged, and we will stay consistently engaged on this question," Miller said.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry of Hungary also voiced its support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Head of the press service of the ministry, Mate Paczolay, said on September 11 that Hungary is committed to its position of respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

"Therefore we consider the so-called 'presidential elections' in Karabakh as illegitimate and call for a peaceful resolution of the conflict as soon as possible," he said, according to AZERTAC.

In the same vein, the Romanian Foreign Ministry has published a statement saying that the county does not recognize the notorious "presidential elections" in Garabagh, AZERTAC reports, citing the ministry’s website.

The statement notes that the Romanian Foreign Ministry does not recognize the so-called "presidential elections" in Garabagh. The Foreign Ministry reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within the internationally recognized borders and advocates a political solution to all issues in the region in accordance with the principles of international law, the document stresses.
