US threatens Turkish banks over Russia ties
14 February 2024 13:10
The US has warned several private banks in Türkiye to scrutinize money transfers with Russia.
“It even reaches a threatening tone,” a source in the banking sector reported on condition of anonymity, according to Gazeta.Ru.
At the beginning of February, Turkish banks began to close accounts of Russian legal entities and increased the requirements for individuals from Russia intending to get a card.
The Ekonomim newspaper reported that the Turkish Ministry of Trade has compiled a list of companies that have problems with payments from Russia. Turkish exporters were faced with the fact that banks began to refuse to accept money transfers from Russia to pay for goods.
