Venice announces date for introduction of ticketing and entry fees

From January 16, 2023, to visit the Italian city of Venice will be required to buy tickets.

The cost of the ticket will vary from 3 to 10 euros and depend on the time of year, TASS reports with reference to the statement of the City Hall.

The purchase will require registering on a special digital platform, which will work later this year.

The ticket will be also available in a QR code format and should be an alternative to the tourist tax. However, only those, who won't stay overnight in the city, will have to buy it. The exceptions will be made for those, who live within the limits of the municipality and those, who work and study in the city, as well as real estate owners.

City Tourism Advisor Simone Venturini, commenting on the decision, said that this initiative is a "great achievement" after years of discussions on how to better manage tourist flows in the city.

Since July 1, 2022, tourists are allowed into the city only by pre-registration.
