Ukraine secures return of over 200 prisoners of war
Ukraine has successfully secured the release of 205 prisoners of war from Russian captivity, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on May 6.
“Ours are free. Ours are at home,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram, celebrating the return of Ukrainian soldiers held in Russian prisons.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the group includes soldiers from across various branches of the armed forces, including those who fought in the city of Mariupol and on other frontlines.
“They were scattered across many Russian regions, imprisoned by the prison system with a single task: to abuse and destroy humanity. We have brought them back,” Zelenskyy wrote.
The president expressed gratitude to all those involved in facilitating the exchange, singling out the United Arab Emirates for its diplomatic mediation. He also thanked international partners and individuals who continue to advocate for Ukrainian prisoners.
"Every day we fight for our people. We will definitely do everything to bring each and every one of them back," Zelenskyy noted.
