Western Azerbaijan Community slams Polish president's visit to Armenia's border “Mind your own problems with neighbours”

28 November 2024 14:52

The Western Azerbaijan Community has expressed serious concern over Polish President Andrzej Duda’s recent visit to the Azerbaijani-Armenian conditional border.

“We have repeatedly emphasized that a significant portion of the territories patrolled by the European Union Mission in Armenia [EUMA] were historically populated by Azerbaijanis. These communities were subjected to repeated deportations throughout history, with their settlements looted and destroyed. Unfortunately, our appeals to the European Union regarding this matter have gone unanswered,” Caliber.Az reports, citing a statement by the community.

Addressing President Duda’s remarks about ensuring that "Armenians live peacefully on their lands within clearly defined borders," the community issued a pointed reminder:

"During the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, we did not hear similar statements from Poland in support of Azerbaijan."

Regarding Duda’s suggestion that Poland could take a more active role in resolving the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the statement added:

"Warsaw already faces numerous challenges with its own neighbours. It would be more logical for Poland to focus on resolving those issues rather than exacerbating tensions in the South Caucasus."

The Western Azerbaijan Community further criticized Armenia's attempts to garner international attention through what it called "cheap shows" such as "binocular diplomacy" or engaging figures like Luis Ocampo and Greta Thunberg, suggesting that such tactics hinder peace prospects in the region.

The community called on Poland to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions in the South Caucasus, urging all parties to seek genuine pathways to peace.

Let's recall that on November 25, a delegation led by Polish President Andrzej Duda visited Armenia for two days. On the first day of the visit, Duda met with Armenia’s leadership, and on the second day, he travelled to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, where Polish observers participate in the EU monitoring mission.
