Zelenskyy to present strategy to Biden for ending war with Russia

28 August 2024 12:01

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on August 27 that he plans to present a comprehensive strategy to US President Joe Biden aimed at concluding the ongoing war with Russia.

Zelenskyy emphasized that achieving peace would require Ukraine to be in a strong position and involve a multi-faceted approach, including economic and diplomatic measures, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media sources.

During a press conference in Kyiv, Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine's recent incursion into Russia’s Kursk region is part of this broader strategy. He expressed his desire for a resolution that would be fair to Ukraine and insisted that Russia must be compelled to end the conflict.

Zelenskyy indicated that he will discuss the plan not only with President Biden but also with Vice President Kamala Harris and potentially with former President Donald Trump, who are key figures in the upcoming US presidential election. He aims to travel to the United States in September for the UN General Assembly and is preparing for talks with Biden.

The Ukrainian leader suggested that the next major forum for peace discussions could be an international summit where Ukraine hopes Russia will participate. However, the first summit in Switzerland, held in June, did not include Russian representatives despite extensive international participation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed the possibility of talks following Ukraine's recent cross-border actions. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed support for a peaceful resolution during a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy criticized Putin’s stance, asserting that any settlement requiring Ukraine to accept Russian territorial gains is unacceptable. He rejected the idea of compromising with Putin, describing current dialogue efforts as futile.
