Battles along Araz River Details of operation/PHOTO

The operations along the Araz River played a decisive role in the Second Karabakh war, as a result of which the territories of Jabrayil district near Khudaferin bridge were cleaned from the enemy and the soldiers of the State Border Service hoisted the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan on October 18, 2020.

According to Report, State Border Service Colonel and Patriotic War hero Babek Alakbarov said that during the war, after the breakthrough of the line in the direction of Soltanli-Amirvarli, the SBS servicemen, according to the plan, began advancing along the Araz.

"During these battles, we liberated the Dalidag Ridge from the enemy. It was one of the most important operations. After capturing the Dalidag Ridge, we destroyed the equipment and manpower of Armenians who were moving in the Araz direction. We ambushed and defeated the enemy here. Then our groups carried out a search and mopping-up operation. Our flag was hoisted on the ancient Khudaferin bridge and I reported it to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev".

Gurban Gurbanov, an SBS officer, also took part in the fighting for the liberation of the Khudaferin bridge.

According to him, he joined the battle in the village of Hadrut, Khojavend district: "Then the combat mission changed. We were instructed to liberate the villages of the Jabrayil district from the enemy - Shukurbeyli, Soltanli, Khudaferin, the city of Zangilan, and the surrounding territories. We moved to the Khudaferin bridge from the village of Soltanli. Strategic heights and outposts were captured.

As a result, the Khudaferin bridge was cleared of Armenians. After our flag was hoisted here, we received the next task. I and Martyr Mahammadali Alakbarov returned to the starting point. Operational battalions were deployed there on the instructions of the leadership. The next direction was the town of Zangilan. Azer Yusifli, Mahammadali Alakbarov, Miragha Gasimov, Ashur Jamiyev, and Khudayar Yusifzade became Martyrs after the city was liberated from the enemy. May Allah rest in peace all our Martyrs!"

Another officer Sanan Mirzaliyev said that after the liberation of the Khudaferin bridge from Armenians, he moved with the units in the direction of Zangilan: "As you know, this went down in history as a lightning offensive in the 44-day Patriotic War. Then we cleared the city of Zangilan and surrounding areas from the enemy. Although we had Martyrs in other battles, there were no casualties in Khudaferin".
