Great Return: 27 more Shusha families resettle in their hometown
A new wave of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) has begun their return to Shusha.
On September 7, a caravan of 27 families, totalling 91 individuals, departed from the Garadagh district of Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
These families had previously been living in temporary accommodations such as dormitories, sanatoriums, children's camps, and various unfinished and administrative buildings across different districts of the republic.
This significant movement marks a continuation of the return process made possible by the Azerbaijani army’s decisive victory in the Patriotic War. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the former IDPs now have the opportunity to return to their homeland voluntarily, safely, and with dignity, after an absence of 30 years.
Residents of Shusha have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to President Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for their comprehensive state support. They also extended their thanks to the Azerbaijani military for liberating their lands from occupation and honoured the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this noble cause.
With the latest resettlement, the total number of families permanently settled in Shusha now stands at 204, comprising 763 individuals. This marks a significant step towards restoring and rebuilding the community in their ancestral home.
