Azerbaijan clears more than 1,800 hectares of mines in Karabakh

The Azerbaijan National Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) has said it cleared more than 1,800 hectares of land of mines in Karabakh, in territories liberated from occupation.

The weekly report on mine clearance indicates that, between August 17 and 23, 98 anti-personnel mines, 41 anti-tank mines and 522 unexploded ordnance items were detected and neutralised, Caliber.Az reports, citing

The operations were carried out in the Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khojavend, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Gazakh and Zangilan districts, as well as in the city of Khankendi.

According to the agency, more than 287,385 hectares of land in the liberated territories have been cleared to date.

A total of 255,200 explosive devices have been detected and neutralised, including 189,097 other explosive ordnance, 42,235 anti-personnel mines and 23,868 anti-tank mines.

ANAMA uses modern technologies, mechanical demining equipment, mine-detection dogs and trained specialists in its operations.
