Azerbaijan’s Shusha hosts International Gastronomy Day
Chefs from Azerbaijan, as well as Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran, have gathered in Azerbaijan’s Shusha city for the International Gastronomy Day, which kicked off on September 6.
The event has been organised jointly by the Azerbaijan State Tourism Agency, the Shusha City State Reserve Department, and the National Culinary Centre, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Outdoor tents have been set up in the city where visitors can taste dishes related to the cultural practices of iftar (the meal to break the fast) in Azerbaijan, Iran, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan, under the theme “Iftar and Related Socio-Cultural Traditions.” This theme is included in UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The event will feature an exhibition showcasing the gastronomy and material-cultural heritage of the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view samples of the decorative heritage known as "Arts of Tezhip" (the art of illumination, a bright and appealing form of book decoration), which is also listed in UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
