Azerbaijan completes 44% of Aghdam-Khankendi railway construction

31 July 2026 15:24

Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) said it has completed 44% of Aghdam-Khankendi railway construction, a new transport corridor designed to serve the Karabakh region.

It noted that around 90% of the design work has also been completed, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the ADY, the 30.8-kilometre railway will feature 130 engineering structures, including six bridges, five road underpasses, two pedestrian underpasses and 47 service crossings.

Conceptual designs for the Askeran and Khojaly railway stations have already been finalised.

Construction is also advancing rapidly on the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex.

Once operational, the Aghdam-Khankendi railway line is expected to significantly improve transport connectivity in Karabakh, support the region's socio-economic development and facilitate the "Great Return" program by improving links between Baku and Khankendi.
