Azerbaijan to restore Fuzuli's Gochahmadli mosque under new MoU

05 September 2024 12:47

The Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, along with the State Service for the Protection, Development, and Restoration of Cultural Heritage and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, are collaborating to restore a mosque in the Gochahmadli village of the liberated Fuzuli district.

This collaborative effort is formalized in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on the preservation and restoration of Azerbaijan's historical and cultural monuments, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The memorandum was signed by Sabina Hajiyeva, head of the State Service, and Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. The agreement aims to safeguard and restore state-protected cultural heritage sites in Azerbaijan while fostering enhanced cooperation between the signatories in the realm of cultural preservation.

Notably, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has made significant strides in its restoration efforts across Karabakh, focusing on both churches and mosques. The Foundation has completed the restoration of several key cultural landmarks in Shusha. These include the museum-mausoleum complex of Molla Panah Vagif, the Mehmandarovs' estate complex, the Saatli Mosque, the Art Gallery, the Carpet Museum, the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, and the Khan Qizi Spring, among others.

These efforts are part of a broader initiative to preserve and restore Karabakh's rich cultural heritage, showcasing the region's historical and architectural significance.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation continues to work towards the preservation and restoration of these invaluable cultural sites, contributing to the revitalization and cultural enrichment of the region.
