German chancellor favours only conditional peace talks with Russia
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that any peace talks must be conditional on Russia withdrawing its troops from Ukraine.
Scholz made the remarks at a press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the DPA news agency reports.
Furthermore, there can be no negotiated peace with Russia behind the backs of the Ukrainians, Scholz said.
The German chancellor added that he and the Brazilian president have a clear common position, as they both condemn the Russian invasion.
On the other hand, Lula clearly rejected hopes of supplying Ukraine with ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns or Leopard tanks.
"Brazil is not interested in transferring ammunition for the Ukrainian-Russian war. Brazil is a country of peace. And therefore Brazil does not want to participate in this war, even indirectly," the president said.
