Gaza death toll tops 52,800 as Israeli attacks continue
At least 52,829 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the enclave's Health Ministry said on May 11.
The ministry's statement added that 19 people were killed in Israeli attacks in the enclave in the last 24 hours, while 81 others were injured, taking the total number of injuries to 119,554, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added.
The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 2,720 people and injured 7,513 others, following the collapsed ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January.
The ongoing blockade, now in its third month, has severely impacted Gaza's healthcare and food supply systems. Hospitals are unable to provide adequate food and medical care, leading to worsening malnutrition, especially among children and pregnant women . The blockade has also led to the closure of charity kitchens and a significant decrease in aid distribution, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
