Azerbaijani MP: Activities of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh raise questions

    POLITICS  26 March 2023 - 09:07

Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijani Parliament's Defence, Security and Anticorruption Committee Hikmet Babaoglu has said that the number of Armenian provocations in Karabakh has increased for a reason.

He said that these provocations take place in the context of active initiatives of the international community, more precisely, US diplomacy, to sign a possible peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, APA reports.

"If we take this into account, it becomes clear that the provocations are carried out with the support of forces that do not want peace in the region. One of the things to pay attention to in this regard is the behavior of the Russian peacekeepers temporarily deployed in Karabakh. They quite openly and obviously patronize Armenian provocations and facilitate the transfer of weapons and ammunition into our territories under their direct control. This can be called the anti-peace mission of the peacekeeping mission. Thus, the anti-peace mission completely departs from the rules of conduct specified for it in the Trilateral Statement. In this case, there is no doubt that the criminal acts committed in the territory of Azerbaijan can not remain unpunished, and Azerbaijan, using its sovereign rights, will take the strongest measures.

The deputy noted that some local control measures have already been implemented in the direction of Khankendi-Khalfeli Istisu and in other directions.

"However, if the joint provocations of Armenian provocateurs and the temporary peacekeeping mission against Azerbaijan do not stop, neither peacekeepers nor Armenians who violate our laws can stay in Azerbaijan. It's a shame that Armenia has forgotten the realities of the war that ended just two and a half years ago and decided to prepare for a new war.

The crime committed in recent days against the soldiers of our army in Zangilan, the provocations committed in different directions of the conditional border, suggest that although Armenia declares that it is for peace, in fact it continues to be a tool for those who drag it into a new military-political adventure. However, Azerbaijan can no longer tolerate the criminal whims of neither the 'peacekeepers' who are not fulfilling their mission, nor Armenia, nor the Armenians living in Karabakh. Azerbaijan can quickly put an end to all these provocations at the appropriate moment," he stressed.
