Turkish air force's new aircraft to gain electronic dominance in sky PHOTO

16 May 2023 17:06

Türkiye’s Defence Industry Department and ASELSAN and TUSAŞ defence industry companies signed a contract for the supply of radar systems and electronic warfare systems, the development and integration of avionics software.

"Under the specified contract, the amount of ASELSAN's share of work is 365,625,000 Turkish liras and 18,750,000 dollars," Caliber.Az reports via SavunmaSanayiST.com on Twitter.

It is believed that the contract in question may be related to the HAVA SOJ platform.

The HAVA SOJ project was created to develop airborne early warning and tactical aviation control aircraft required by the Turkish Air Force.

Aircraft of the HAVA SOJ system are of strategic importance to the country and will give the Air Force command air superiority. The system's capabilities will contribute to Türkiye’s goal of an effective and proactive foreign policy by adding an important deterrent. This system, acting as a highly effective weapon, will also be a deterrent to the enemy in peacetime.

As a reminder, HAVA SOJ aircraft perform the tasks of detection, diagnostics, identification, classification, navigation and positioning for traditional and complex ground, air and sea radar transmissions of the new generation. Electronic attack systems integrated with electronic support systems employ various methods of jamming and deception. SOJ air systems operate outside the radar coverage and range of enemy air defences.

Aircraft of the HAVA SOJ system perform tasks in coordination with the Centre for Planning and Training on the Ground. Suppressing the radar and communication systems of enemy air defence, it allows its combat aircraft to safely carry out strike missions. Combat aircraft can perform targeted offensive missions by entering and leaving enemy airspace through safe corridors created by HAVA SOJ aircraft.

HAVA SOJ is being developed on the basis of the aircraft of the Canadian company Bombardier Aerospace. The Bombardier Global 6000 is a super-haul airliner equipped with Rolls-Royce BR700s engines, capable of flying up to 12 hours. The maximum flight altitude is 15.5 km.

The contract for the supply of four HAVA SOJ aircraft to the Turkish Air Force was signed in August 2018. According to preliminary data, the first tests of the AWACS aircraft are scheduled for 2023, and commissioning will be completed by the end of 2026.
