Russia needs guarantees Kremlin on Putin's visit to Armenia

Press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia needs guarantees from Armenia.

Peskov noted that before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible visit to Armenia, Russia needs certain assurances from its Armenian partners in connection with joining the International Criminal Court (ICC), Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

“We reiterate that of course, the new reality associated with Armenia’s accession to this international statute negatively impacts our bilateral relations. Of course, it is very important to receive certain assurances from our Armenian partners. This issue has yet to be resolved within a bilateral dialogue. We are committed to it,” Peskov told reporters.

Earlier in an interview with The Telegraph, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not need his advice on the visit to Armenia due to Yerevan’s ratification of the Rome Statute.

Armenia officially became a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on February 1. Yerevan, having ratified the Rome Statute, became a full member of the ICC on February 1. These actions caused a certain cooling in relations with Russia.
