Azerbaijan to become US' key ally in Caucasus Armenian pundit says

Doctor of Political Science at Stanford University Arthur Khachikian has told Armenian media that Azerbaijan will be the key ally of the US in the Caucasus.

"As for the meeting on April 5, no danger should be expected for Azerbaijan, as Azerbaijan is a very important country for the West and the US and in the future will be their key ally in the South Caucasus. American experts on this issue say that Azerbaijan, having gas and oil, such a geographical position and being another important ally of Türkiye, it is logical that it is our ally. Azerbaijan has no problems here," Khachikian said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

"I wouldn't worry about Azerbaijan. Especially since we see the kind of relationship it has with the US, that the US should assure them that we will not help Armenia in such a way that there is a threat to you. Macron did the same thing, if you remember, France did the same thing. They said we're only supplying Armenia with defensive weapons and very little. So, in my opinion, Azerbaijan has nothing to fear.

And the purpose of that meeting is to make an unprecedented impression on us. There will be some promises, some assistance, maybe some economic contracts, some other promises or contracts in the energy sector. Whether they will be fulfilled or not is the question. Perhaps some military aid, but in such volumes that it will not change anything in reality, so that it will not pose a threat to Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as France does. France said, remember, last time they said that there will be no guarantees, Armenia will not be an ally, but they will provide, for example, sniper rifles and night vision devices. This is not bad, but it does not change the military balance in any way. There has been no real military aid so far, and I don't think that will change. In my opinion, there will be promises, for example, there will be some trainings, some specialists will teach us.

In addition, Azerbaijan is buying fighter jets from Pakistan, no one is talking about it, whether we will be satisfied or not, no one is asking us for permission. We have no right to any objections either to Türkiye, Israel, Pakistan or the US, and in our case they are apologizing to Aliyev for helping us," the political analyst noted.
