Azerbaijan praises Italy's balanced policy, condemns France's approach With regard to Baku-Yerevan peace process

04 April 2024 16:41

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada has lauded Italy's balanced policy stance while condemning France's approach regarding the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports.

"On April 3, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement saying that third-party interference in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia could cause additional tensions. The statement calls on the French side to refrain from taking steps that hinder peace efforts. The document also notes that Azerbaijan demonstrates a responsible approach as the host country of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), in this regard, the statements of the French Foreign Minister during the joint press conference with the US Secretary of State harm the process," Hajizada said.

Commenting on this, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizada said that this statement of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy speaks first of all about respect for the fundamental principles and norms of international law.

"It also demonstrates how important it is to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of countries and to refrain from an irresponsible approach to such a sensitive issue as the normalisation and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Italy's approach to the regional issue, both during the conflict and in the post-conflict period, has always been balanced. Italy has always avoided a policy of ignoring violations of international law and this shows once again how unjustified and ineffective are the destructive policies of countries such as France. We believe that the policy pursued by Italy should serve as an example for some European states, especially France," Hajizada said.
