Azerbaijan's anti-terrorist measures restored sovereignty over Karabakh region Claims defence official
In an interview marking the anniversary of Azerbaijan’s anti-terrorist operation, Colonel Anar Eyvazov, spokesperson for the Defence Ministry, provided a detailed account of the circumstances that led to the operation.
Eyvazov highlighted the provocations by Armenia since the signing of the trilateral statement, which, he asserted, made the operation inevitable, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The colonel detailed a specific incident on September 19, when two vehicles belonging to Azerbaijani state structures were destroyed by mines laid by reconnaissance and sabotage groups affiliated with Armenian armed factions. This attack resulted in casualties among police officers, civilians, and servicemen.
In response to these provocations and under the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's directives, Azerbaijan launched an anti-terrorist operation aimed at upholding the provisions of the trilateral agreement, neutralizing Armenian military infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of returning civilians and reconstruction personnel.
The operation also targeted long-term firing points, combat vehicles, and other military assets of the remaining Armenian forces and illegal armed groups using precision weaponry.
The operation has culminated in the disarmament of illegal armed groups and the dissolution of the separatist regime in the Karabakh economic region. According to Eyvazov, Azerbaijan's sovereignty over Karabakh has been fully restored as a result of these efforts.
