Armenia’s economy minister resigns
Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan has resigned from his post.
He announced his resignation on social media, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
These three-plus years, Kerobyan added, he worked a minimum of six days a week, on average from 8 am to 9 pm, and used up 15-16 days of vacation during the entire time.
"When I accepted the position of minister on November 20, 2020, there was a possibility that I would stay there for days and months, as the possibility of a change of power was very high. At that time, due to many disagreements, I wanted to leave the post more than once, but I put my ego lower in order to achieve the maximum possible for the country," Kerobyan said.
He thanked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for the opportunity to serve the country.
Kerobyan did not write anything about the reasons for his departure, but it may be related to the recent corruption scandal related to the embezzlement of funds for the planting of intensive (high-yielding) orchards. Kerobyan's deputy Ani Ispiryan and other officials of the Ministry of Economy, among others, are on trial in this case.
