Armenian ex-corps commander faces charges of spying for Azerbaijani military
Former commanders of a corps and a military unit of the Armenian Armed Forces face charges related to the escalation on the notional Azerbaijani-Armenian border in 2021.
According to the press service of the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office, “Vagram Grigoryan, holding the position of commander of one of the army corps, on November 14, 2021, allowed the unit commander A. M. to negotiate with the “enemy”, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“After this, he received a report from A.M. that the enemy was waiting for an answer regarding the opening of the road, and issued an order distracting personnel from performing duties as part of combat duty,” the press service said.
The commander of the military unit A.M., instead of stopping negotiations and ordering to open fire to prevent the “enemy’s” advance, together with “enemy” officers went to the defence line of one of the companies.
There, his deputy G.I. ordered only to open warning fire.
Company commanders M.P. and A.T., instead of acting on the basis of the order of G.I., succumbed to the psychological pressure of the enemy and, without resistance, without permission from superior officers, left their positions, finding themselves surrounded together with the unit commander.
As a result, the “enemy”, without encountering any resistance, took control of several combat positions.
On October 6, by decision of the prosecutor, criminal prosecution was initiated against all these individuals (violation of the rules of combat duty or combat service),” reports the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia.
