Armenian major found guilty of pushing soldier towards suicide
An Armenian major has been criminally charged with encouraging a soldier to commit suicide.
As Caliber.Az reports, referring to Armenian media outlets, the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia announced this.
According to them, the Deputy Commander of a Rifle Battalion, Chief of Staff of an armed unit, only named as A.T, was found to have been committing acts against military honour and dignity by using violence against an Armenian soldier, Granik Khnkoyan under his command in the presence of fellow soldiers. The soldier's body was found with a gunshot wound to the head shortly after that incident, reported by the defense ministry on August 12.
"Being in a depressed state, Granik Khnkoyan opened fire and inflicted fatal gunshot wounds to himself with the machine gun that was attached to him, as a result of which he died on the spot", the committee concluded.
The major was charged on August 15 and sentenced to house arrest, although the investigative body called for his detention.
