"I hope that today’s important step on the path to our goal — a Türkiye free of terror — will be beneficial. May God grant us the opportunity to achieve our objectives on this path, which we follow for the security of our country, the peace of our nation, and the establishment of lasting peace in our region," the president said.
The disarmament process officially began today in the rural area of Sulaymaniyah, located in northern Iraq. According to reports from Türkiye Gazetesi, the PKK is expected to fully dissolve and destroy its entire arsenal within three to four months.
This historic initiative is being coordinated jointly by Ankara, Baghdad, and the Kurdish Regional Government in Erbil, signalling unprecedented cooperation among the parties involved. Officials view this move as a crucial milestone in the ongoing efforts to bring long-lasting peace and stability to the region.
