Australian professional mixed martial artist dethrones US rival at UFC 315
Australian professional mixed martial artist Jack Della Maddalena delivered a performance on May 10 night, neutralising US professional mixed martial artist Belal Muhammad’s renowned wrestling and securing a unanimous decision victory to claim the UFC welterweight title in the main event of UFC 315.
Competing in front of a packed crowd at Montreal’s Bell Centre, the Australian fighter limited Muhammad to just one takedown over five rounds, using sharp volume striking to control the pace and momentum of the bout. Judges scored the contest 48-47, 48-47, and 49-45 in favor of Della Maddalena, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The victory extended Della Maddalena’s winning streak to 18 consecutive fights, improving his professional MMA record to 18-2. Muhammad, who was making his first defense of the welterweight crown, saw his own 11-fight unbeaten run come to an end. His record now stands at 24-4 with one no contest.
Della Maddalena repeatedly pressured Muhammad with his striking, nearly finishing the fight on several occasions and preventing the former champion from establishing his usual rhythm on the ground. Speaking after the bout, Della Maddalena praised Muhammad’s toughness but made it clear he was confident in the outcome.
“It felt [expletive] good,” the new champion said with a smile.
